DRDO was entrusted with a mandate that is of national importance. It has not only emerged as a mature and strong R&D organization but is also the largest in the country having 52 laboratories in different parts of the country, with core competence in the area of critical defence technologies. These vary from arms / ammunitions to guns, tanks, APCs, bridging and communication equipment, ships and aircrafts. It also conducts research in the field of life sciences, including food and clothing for different terrain. We have several strategically important, large value ongoing R&D programmes of national importance. There is a need to effectively communicate our achievements as well as the challenges to the people, customers and associates.
In the present globalize economy DRDO has to perform amidst stiff international competition. It has to gain the confidence of PSUs, industry and business leaders and increasingly involve the scientific and academic community in its indigenous R&D efforts. There is also the need to attract young talents and counter the market pull on its trained manpower.
Public Relations Department is recognized as an important department which plays a vital role in disseminating information about any private, public and government organisation through print and visual media to create awareness among the public. It strives to create the bridge of goodwill by interacting with the public and also propagating the schemes and programmes of the establishment. The task of disseminating information and projection of an organization is a undoubtedly a professional job.
As part of the PR initiative, a PR Directorate within DRDO was thus created with the primary mandate of building a strong image for the organization.
This Dte will be required to define the PR policy, participate at all levels in PR activities and coordinate at Corporate office for this mission.
SALIENT FEATURES
The DPI of DRDO will have its HQs at Delhi with offices at DRDO Bhawan and DESIDOC, with a separate provision for budgetary allocation.
DESIDOC will provide all support for functioning of the Dte.
DPI will have country-wide network with Regional PR Centers initially at 4 other locations (Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune, Dehradun and Chandigarh)
It will be in constant touch with the Additional PIO, DPR (MoD) to share information and utilise their nation-wide PR set-up.
CHARTER OF DUTIES
DPI of DRDO has the responsibility of planning and coordinating the activities of Image Building of DRDO.
It is the authorised channel for disseminating information about programmes, policies and activities of DRDO and its labs through print media and internet.
It will bridge the gap between DRDO and outside agencies like services, bureaucracy, political leadership, industry, academia / S&T deptts., students and general public
DPR is authorised to interact with print media on behalf of DRDO.
DPI also has mandate of planning the Corporate Identity and building work culture and value system for a globally respected and visible Brand - DRDO.
