Portable Gas
Chromatograph
Gas chromatograph is normally a
bench-top laboratory instrument for qualitative/quantitative analysis of chemicals in
food, pesticide and drug industries. To provide a field-based detection equipment for
monitoring and quantitating chemical warfare agents, a portable gas chromatograph has been
developed for field use. The equipment comprises an adsorbent-based input preconcentrator
and a wide-bore capillary column as GC separator kept in an oven, followed by a
photoionisation detector to provide electrical signal. The signal is received by a
microprocessor onboard a data acquisition and alarm system for identification of the
chemical present. The system gives alarm and provides the chromatogram on its inbuilt
printer.
