Department of Defence Research & Development (DDR&D)

The DDR&D is headed by the Secretary who is also the Scientific Adviser to the Raksha Mantri (Defence Minister).The main function of this Department is to advice on scientific aspects of military equipment and logistics and the formulation of research, design and development plans for equipment used by the Services.

The mission of DDR&D is progressive enhancement of self-reliance in the state-of-the-art technologies for the Armed Forces.

The Department undertakes programs for development and production of indigenous sensors, platforms, weapons and equipment in accordance with the requirements of Services.
