The Directorate of Missiles was formed in 1972 to look after independently the work related to missile development. At present, Directorate of Missiles is entrusted with the work of Missile development and Headquarters formation for DRDL, RCI and ITR.
The Directorate is coordinating the work pertaining to DRDL, RCI, CPDC, ITR, QARC to provide help to all the DRDO labs to get ISO 9000 certification. Also work related to interaction with CII & other industries for the transfer of technologies developed by some of the DRDO labs for civil use.
The groups under this Directorate are :-
First Group :-Coordinates the activities of IGMDP and other missile R&D projects related to Indian Armed Forces i.e. Army, Air Force & Navy and DRDL & RCI activities.
Second Group:- Coordinates the activities and R&D Project related to Missile Range and ITR activities.
Third Group :- Quality Assurance and Reliability Cell deals with coordinating the activities and R&D project related to obtaining the ISO 9000 certification for all the DRDO labs.
Fourth Group :- DRDO-CII Interaction Group deals with coordinating the activities related to transfer of technologies developed by the DRDO labs to civil sector.
